
Attire for men should be at least appropriate for Black Tie or evening formal wear (dark colored suits with a white dress shirt are an acceptable substitute). The attire for women should also be appropriate for evening formal wear. “Costume de Riguer” (white-tie and tails for men, floor length gowns and white gloves for women) is the customary attire for a Mardi Gras ball; the style is encouraged but is not mandatory.
Military uniforms are NOT required but can be worn as a personal choice. Military members are welcome to attend in civilian evening attire as prescribed above and below.

Special rule: Ball attire in styles dating back to the Louisiana Purchase are especially authorized by the Magistrate of the Port and will be met with the most triumphant acclaim.


Mardi Gras masks that are in good taste for this event have been authorized by the Magistrate.
